The Asokore Mampong chief and queenmother
The bodies of Asokore Mampong chief, Nana Boakye-Ansah Debrah and Queenmother, Nana Saamaa Diawuo II, will be finally interred at the royal mausoleum in Asokore Mampong in Kumasi tonight, Monday, September 1, 2025.
The Asokore Mamponghene and Mamponghemaa died at the age of 76, and 87 respectively.
The two prominent figures were laid in state, starting from Saturday, and they would be finally buried tonight during a private traditional ceremony.
So far, chiefs from Asanteman and other parts of the country have trooped to the Asokore Mamponghene’s palace to pay their last respects to the departed chief and queenmother.
Other people, including family members, natives of Asokore Mampong, the clergy, politicians and people from all walks of life have paid their last respects, amid uncontrollable wailing.
The solemn occasion has been characterised by the singing of dirges and the firing of musketry, to demonstrate to the world that Asokore Mampong is currently in mourning.
Nana Boakye Ansah-Debrah as the Asokore Mamponghene was also the Nifahene (head of the right wing) of the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC), headed by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
During his reign, he brought massive transformation to Asokore Mampong, especially in the proper planning of the town, earning the respect of his people.
Meanwhile, a mammoth burial service was held for the deceased Asokore Mampong chief and queenmother at the Asokore Mampong Palace on Sunday afternoon.
