Rev. Dr. Stephen YenusomWengam
General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Dr. Stephen YenusomWengam, has led prayers for the country against any planned attack by terrorists operating in the West African Sub-region.
The prayers were said on Saturday during the official induction ceremony held by the church for the newly elected executives for the Ashanti East Region.
Rev. Wengam also prayed to God to oppose any demonic effort to destabilize the African continent and make its people miserable.
In his prayer, the General Superintendent urged God to “repel and negate every activity of insurrection and upheaval from the evil kingdom on the African continent and we ask God to help our people in these difficult times so that we can see his glory once again in our lives and in Africa.”
According to Rev. Dr. Wengam, who delivered the earlier sermon on leadership from the Second Book of Kings 18:3–16, all leaders must have the audacity to stand out from others who have erred before them, much like King Hezekiah did in the Bible.
He stated that Hezekiah, an Israelite king, resolved to live his entire life in accordance with God’s precepts, deciding to disregard everything his forebears had done that had angered God.
The General Superintendent stated that Hezekiah’s desire to avoid evil did not prevent the devil from testing his leadership abilities, adding that Hezekiah eventually became arrogant and egotistical.
On behalf of the newly sworn-in executives, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Gyasi, Ashanti East Regional Superintendent of AG, committed to lead the church in soul winning for Christ.
He emphasized that increasing their membership in Ashanti East would not be simple, but through prayer and dedication to duty, the church can achieve its goals.
Rev Dr. Gyasi urged the church to rally behind the new executives so that they can carry out their responsibilities successfully and efficiently.
Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, added that terrorists have taken over the continent, noting that intelligence reports indicate that Ivory Coast is next on the terrorists’ radar, and that if this occurs, Ghana will not be spared.
