The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma, Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has begun the distribution of birds under the government’s flagship Nkoko Nketenkete Project to promote household poultry farming and improve livelihoods in the district.
The exercise, carried out recently, is part of the government’s agricultural interventions aimed at boosting food security and reducing poverty at the community level.
To ensure a smooth and transparent process, the distribution was organised in two zones—Kwanwoma Mpatasie and Atwima Techiman–Merewadwa.
Addressing the media, Madam Asamoah said each beneficiary household received 50 birds, explaining that the initiative is designed to economically empower families while encouraging small-scale poultry production.
She urged beneficiaries to set aside partisan considerations and support the programme, stressing that it is intended for the benefit of all residents, regardless of political affiliation.
“This is a national programme aimed at improving household incomes and food security. It is not about politics, but about improving the lives of our people,” she stated.
Madam Asamoah assured residents that additional phases of the distribution would be carried out and appealed for patience, noting that all interested persons would be covered in due course.
She expressed optimism that with proper management, the project would have a positive impact on the local economy, especially in rural communities.
The Atwima Kwanwoma District Plant and Animal Protection Officer also took beneficiaries through a practical sensitisation session on poultry management and disease control, stressing the importance of proper housing, feeding, vaccination and sanitation to prevent losses.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the John Dramani Mahama administration and the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly for the initiative, pledging to make good use of the birds.
The Nkoko Nketenkete Project forms part of government’s broader efforts to boost local poultry production, cut down poultry imports and create sustainable jobs across the country.
