THE INSPECTOR General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu has indicated that the patrols carried out by the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) Unit of the National Security at Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency during the by-election was problamtic.
He said this while testifying before the Justice Emile Short Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
The Short Commission is probing the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election shooting incident.
He said there was a problem with the SWAT Team to patrol within the constituency with the inscription police without informing the Ghana Police Service.
He stated that he was not informed before the deployment of the SWAT Team in the Constituency even though the Police Service is responsible for internal security.
According to him, the deployment of the SWAT Team without notice to the Police hierarchy, was a clear breakdown of security coordination and cooperation but noted that there was much room for improvement.
He disclosed that there were 36 police officers on secondment at the National Security.
