Ayorkor Botchwey exchanging pleasantries with Ga Mantse
After her election as the Commonwealth of Nations’ Secretary-General, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has express her gratitude to the leaders who supported her campaign.
Among those she acknowledged was the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.
At a ceremony held at the Presidential Lounge of Kotoka International Airport, Ayorkor Botchwey emphasised the pivotal role the Ga Mantse and other dignitaries played in her journey to winning the position.
“I would like to thank my own King, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, for keeping faith with me,” she stated.
Madam Ayorkor Botchwey also extended her thanks to President Nana Akufo-Addo for his unwavering support saying, “I am so grateful to President Akufo-Addo, who first gave me a chance in politics, and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.”
She pledged her commitment to fostering development among Commonwealth nations.
Competing against Gambia’s Foreign Minister Dr. Mamadou Tangara and Lesotho’s former Trade Minister Joshua Setipa, her election during the 27th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa marks a historic milestone.
Madam Ayorkor Botchwey becomes the first Ghanaian and the second African to hold this esteemed position, following Chief Emeka Anyaoku of Nigeria, who served from 1990 to 2000.
