BA Police Name Crime Areas

Chief Inspector Kinsley Oppong

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command has named ten crime-prone communities in the region as a means of flushing out miscreants who live in those communities.

Sankore in the Asunafo South District improved its rating by moving from first position to second position in the past three months as far as criminal activities are concerned.

Currently, Busunyan in the Nkoranza North District tops the ten communities with the highest crime rate in the region. According to the Regional Police PRO, Chief Inspector Kinsley Oppong, Busunyan has gained notoriety because of the killing of people’s livestock, attacks on homes, among other crimes. He explained that those who engaged in these activities at Busunyan are not necessarily indigenous people but settlers who go there to engage in charcoal burning and other activities. He called on residents and chiefs to monitor the activities of such persons with a view to calling the attention of the police when they are suspicious about their movement.

He disclosed: “Sankore was able to drop to second position because perpetrators of such criminal activities, such as Godred Amponsah alias Amankugi, have been stopped. Godfred was shot, arrested and is now receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital although his accomplices are on the run”.

The third on the list is Seikwa in the Tain District, a town linked with a series of murders. The fourth is Ntotroso in the Asuntifi South District noted for attacks on police personnel on duty. Other towns in the top 10 are Techimantia and Dwormo in Tano South Municipality and Senase in the Berekum Municipality.

Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West District has also been captured for galamasy and chainsaw activities while Akyere near Kwame Danso in Sene West District and Yeji are noted for highway robberies. Chief Inspector Oppong praised communities such as Nsoatre and Kato which were captured in the previous rating but are now out of the latest rating.

“Some of the crimes we look for include rape, defilement, murder, galamsey, robbery, drug peddling and serious accident, among others,” he disclosed.
