Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, has pushed back against accusations from a group known as Team Legal Wives, following controversy surrounding court proceedings after the death of highlife icon, Daddy Lumba.
The criticism arose after Baba Jamal’s law firm, Baba Jamal and Associates, provided legal services to Odo Broni and family head, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, during a legal dispute over who should be recognised as the late musician’s surviving spouse. Supporters of Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, accused Baba Jamal of personally taking sides in the matter.
However, speaking in an interview on GHOne TV, Baba Jamal clarified that he played no direct role in the case, stressing that ownership of a law firm does not mean personal involvement in all matters handled by the firm.
He explained that he neither led the case nor appeared in court at any point, and that the accusations stemmed from a misunderstanding of how legal practice works.
According to him, the firm merely carried out professional duties assigned by its clients.
Baba Jamal also dismissed claims that his lawyers fuelled tensions for personal benefit, insisting that lawyers act strictly on client instructions.
“You may have your lawyers and we also have ours. Lawyers do not manufacture issues; we simply carry out what our clients ask us to do,” he stated.
The former Deputy Minister, who is also seeking to contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat, added that he harbours no personal issues with Akosua Serwaa or Odo Broni, emphasising that the matter was purely legal and not driven by personal interest.
The dispute emerged shortly after Daddy Lumba’s passing, when questions arose over marital status and representation of the musician’s family, drawing intense public and fan attention.
