Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
In a bold move, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has retaliated against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for branding him a liar.
Speaking at a media engagement on Sunday, August 25, Bawumia referenced past allegations against former President John Mahama, including the Airbus bribery scandal, where Mahama was labeled “Government Official 1.”
“People call me a liar, and I say at least I’m not called a murderer, as my boss [President Akufo-Addo] was called, or I’m not called a drug dealer, or even I’m not called Government Official 1,” Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said, turning the tables on his critics.
The NDC had previously tagged Bawumia as a liar for his claims about Ghana’s economic progress and his vision for the future.
However, their criticism was exposed in twists when it was revealed that their own manifesto contained similar promises and projections.
“We cannot trust Bawumia, he is a liar and cannot be trusted with the future of this country,” said Sammy Gyamfi, NDC Communications Officer had said in a statement.
However, when confronted with the similarities between their manifestos, Gyamfi was forced to backtrack, saying “we were just trying to highlight the differences between our policies and theirs.”
Speaking further, Dr Bawumia argued that his ambitious vision for Ghana’s future, which includes leveraging technology and economic growth, has led to accusations of dishonesty.
He emphasized the need for a mindset shift in the country, advocating for a belief in possibilities and technological advancement.
“When other countries are going to Mars, why would you think earthly things are not possible?” Bawumia quizzed, highlighting the NDC’s “impossibility mindset” that limits Ghana’s development.
