Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
It has emerged that report by digital news platform, Whatsup News, alleging that Vice President Dr. Mahamud Bawumia had threatened to resign, were deliberately concocted.
DGN Online is informed that the report was published purposely to create a false impression about disharmony between the Vice President and President Nana Akufo-Addo as well as some leading officials of the current administration.
Whatsup News had published in its Tuesday, July 16, 2019, edition a story titled: ‘Bombshell!’ Bawumia Threatens Resignation.’
In the said story, it claimed that the Vice President had written his official resignation letter, outlining his discontent, among which included that some individuals within the current administration particularly Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta; Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Mafo, and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko, were usurping his role as Vice President.
The digital news outlet had further claimed that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, had on Monday July 15, sent a mediation team to the Jubilee house to help get the Vice President to rescind his decision.
But DGN Online’s checks at the Presidency shows that nothing of that sort has happened.
Sources say the Vice President was rather busy creditably keeping the fort for his boss, Mr. Akufo-Addo, who is rather away from the country on a three-week vacation.
