Prince David Osei
Actor Prince David Osei has shared his experience on being a film producer in addition to his acting career and says it is an arduous task.
Speaking in an interview with NEWS-ONE on Sunday, he revealed that the most difficult part of film production is getting the movie across to the fans after shooting and “how you need to get your money back”.
“Apart from Silverbird Cinemas and Watch & Dine Cinemas in Kumasi, after premiering the movie you probably have to sell to Iroko TV, Rock TV or Dstv for TV rights and probably do online streaming. So the major challenge as a producer is getting movie across to the fans. You can do all the best movies and after cinema where else?” he also questioned.
“If Dstv and Iroko didn’t buy your film, then it’s like you just have your hard drive with you. That’s the sad part because actually we don’t do VCDs and DVDs anymore and a lot of people don’t have the luxury of watching films online,” he added.
However, he stated that this would not prevent him from producing, as he has announced his return onto the production scene with two new major movies almost three years after producing his last film, ‘Last Night’.
The two upcoming movies, he revealed, are ‘Newsman’ and ‘As You Prayed’, all co-produced by his PDO Productions.
‘Newsman’ was co-produced by Ninth November Films and partly shot in Italy and Ghana. It will be out in July 2019, and will be in cinemas in countries like Canada, US, UK and other parts of Africa, especially Ghana.
‘Newsman’ is a film about the dangers journalists go through to break major stories.
‘As You Prayed’, on the other hand, is a Christian film, also co-produced by PB Productions.
