Bloody Fight In Dompim Over Chieftaincy

The three suspects

THERE IS an uneasy calm at Dompim near Tarkwa in the Western Region following an alleged chieftaincy clash that happened in the area last Wednesday.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that during the clash, one person sustained life-threatening injuries.

Some residents have attributed the recent clash to the alleged declaration by one Nathaniel Dekyi that he is the chief of the area.

In his recent allegation that he knew some government officials who were behind illegal mining activities in the area, Nathaniel Dekyi described himself as the Chief of Dompim Pepesa with the stool name, Nana Nyonmah Panyin IV.

Following his allegation, the Dompim Pepesa Divisional Council issued a statement to deny the assertion by Nathaniel Dekyi that he is the chief of the area.

The Divisional Council stated unequivocally that Nathaniel Dekyi is not the Chief of Dompim Pepesa but the chief of the area is Ohyeawora Bian Nyonwa Panyin IV.

According to sources, last Wednesday, some youth in Dompim Pepesa went on rampage and in the process inflicted machete wounds on someone believed to be a bodyguard of the self-styled chief.

The victim, who was identified as one Gyator, is currently on admission receiving medical attention.

Police Arrest

Meanwhile, the police have arrested three suspects in connection with the chieftaincy related disturbances.

The names of the suspects were given as Ibrahim Issah, Atanga Peter and Asonba Emmanuel.

The police said the suspects were among a group of people who went on rampage and destroyed properties belonging to some individuals in the town.

The police have since restored calm in the town and have intensified efforts to get the remaining suspects arrested to face justice.
