A groundnut factory has been planned for the North East Gonja District Assembly under the ‘One District One Factory’ programme, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Alhassan Abdallah Iddi, has disclosed that the district has announced.
A land for the project he said had been acquired and documentation completed.
The contractor he said would soon visit the site to commence work.
Farmers in the district, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE, expressed their delight about the project.
They said the construction of the factory would motivate them to produce more of the crop and expand their business which would also create jobs for the youth in the district.
Addressing the media at the North East Gonja District meet the press encounter, the DCE said 133 people had been employed under the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) programme in the district, while under the Youth Empowerment Agency (YEA) 109 people have been recruited.
In order to tackle furniture deficit in basic schools in the district, the assembly has awarded a contract for the supply of 580 dual desks for schools in the district.
“A total of GH¢241,217.00 have been disbursed to the LEAP beneficiaries,” he said
On the One Village One Dam initiative he said, 10 dams were earmarked for the district but one was currently ongoing at Jinlo, a farming community in the district.
