Boy, 12, Drowns In Owabi River

A NORMAL swimming expedition by a group of young boys suddenly turned disastrous when one of them drowned in the Owabi River Saturday afternoon.

Williams Kyei, now deceased, was reported to be having a nice time with some of his friends in the river around 2:40pm when the incident happened.

According to the police, Kyei, after jumping into the Owabi River at Atwima Tabre New Site had attempted to swim back to the shores of the river but his efforts got futile.

Realising that Kyei had drowned, an alarm was quickly raised by his fear-stricken friends, thereby attracting scores of curious people to the banks of the river.

The incident was then reported to the Kokoben Police Station on the same day so some police personnel were sent to the accident scene.

A police document indicated that Yaw Amoah, 59, of Atwima Tabre, who claimed to be the grandfather of the deceased, personally reported the case to the police.

“The complainant led police to the scene at the banks of River Owabi where the body of the deceased was found lying in a supine position on the ground, wearing only red shorts.

“The complainant identified the body as deceased Williams Kyei. During inspection, a whitish fluid was found coming out from the nostrils,” part of the police report disclosed.

The body was then sent to the mortuary for autopsy.

The police document, which was sighted by the DAILY GUIDE, disclosed that investigations were still underway to determine the exact cause of the drowning.
