A 16-year-old boy, name withheld has been rescued by an NGO, End Modern Slavery (EMS) in collaboration with Engage Now Africa (ENA) after he was being trafficked by one of his relatives from Volta Region to the Western Region to engage in tedious works.
The boy as gathered was kidnapped by one of his granduncle identified as Stephen from Detsawome, a community in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region to Bamiankor, in the Western Region some months ago.
He was reportedly been offered to be paid GHC10 a day by his masters at the fish farming community but was not given the exact amount promised after spending some months there.
The boy who is now under the care of the South Tongu District Department of Social Welfare was rescued and now reunified with his family by the NGO when they stormed the community as part of their engagement and had the information.
The victim’s grandfather, Frank-Bossman who narrated the incident to the NGO; said the victim’s younger brother was also being trafficked by the grandmother all because the (traffickers) believe taking care of the children was a difficult task for them.
Afasi Komla, Director of Operations for Engage Now Africa (ENA) and Leader of End Modern Slavery (EMS) on his side use the opportunity to advise parents from allowing their wards to be trafficked since it’s against the law.
Meanwhile, the suspect who is the Granduncle of the victim is currently in Police custody assisting investigations.
