Carpenter In Court For Defilement

A 30-year-old carpenter has been hauled before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl at Ashaley Botwe in the Greater Accra Region.

The accused, Richard Moncho, according to the police, in March 2018 lured the victim into an unused kiosk and forcibly had sex with her.

He is said to have threatened to kill the victim if anyone hears about it.

He has been charged with defiling a child under 16 years of age contrary to Section 101 (2) of the Criminal and Other Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).

His plea was not taken, as the police are yet to confirm the real age of the victim.

The accused was granted bail in the sum of GH?30,000 with three sureties.

Hearing continues on April 17, 2018.

Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire, who presented the fact of the case to the court, stated that the complainant in the matter is a vendor while the victim is her house-help.

He said the accused is a regular customer of the complainant.

The prosecutor noted that the accused in March moved to the joint and succeeded in luring the victim into an unused kiosk where he sexually assaulted her three times and later warned her not to tell anyone else.

According to Chief Inspector Atimbire, the victim who could no longer bear the pain disclosed her ordeal to the seven-year-old child of the complainant who informed the mother.

He said the complainant questioned the victim and later lodged a complaint with the police.

She was given a police medical form to take the victim to any government hospital for examination and treatment.

Richard Moncho was arrested and subsequently arraigned before the court.
