Receiving such a distinguished honor from the University of Ghana and GCB Bank – two of Ghana’s most prominent academic and financial institutions highlights Cedrick’s strong knowledge in the field of Finance. The University of Ghana, established in 1948, is the oldest and largest public university in Ghana. It is known for its strong focus on research, with several institutes dedicated to fields such as finance, public health, agriculture, and climate change. The University of Ghana plays a crucial role in shaping the intellectual and professional landscape in Africa. GCB Bank is one of the oldest, largest and most prominent banks in Ghana. Established in 1953, it is a leading financial institution in the country. It plays a significant role in the development of the Ghanaian economy by supporting various sectors such as agriculture, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and infrastructure projects. Its reputation for stability, reliability, and customer service has made it a key player in the country’s banking sector.
20 out of more than 3000 graduates from the University of Ghana Business School were honored for their outstanding achievements during the Vice-Chancellor’s ceremony recognizing award winners. The ceremony was held last Friday at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana. These recipients are recognized for their outstanding and unique performance in their field.
Other top winners include Samuel Aboagye, Najaht Ahmed, Daniel Nkrumah, and Clement Mensah Okey, who received the Sadhu T.L. Vaswani/Indian Association of Ghana Endowment Fund for Business Administration. Marishka Sarpong was honored for Humanities Alumni Award, while Hope Kwaku Tetley was recognized for his overall achievement in Administration and Desire Mensah was awarded the Unilever for the Best Female in B.Sc. Administration.
In his opening remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ernest Aryeetey highlighted that the event, a follow-up to two previous congregation ceremonies, provided a platform to celebrate the outstanding students. He extended gratitude to the sponsors whose continued support made the ceremony possible, specifically acknowledging CAL Bank’s CEO and UGBS alumnus, Mr. Frank Adu Jnr, who introduced six new awards this year. Prof. Aryeetey also praised the gender-specific awards as a means to motivate female students to strive for academic excellence. He commended all awardees for their dedication, resilience, and integrity, encouraging current students to aim for similar achievements.
Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic & Student Affairs, Prof. S.K. Offei, echoed these sentiments, noting that the event’s purpose was to recognize exceptional students and inspire others to follow their example.
The ceremony was attended by university leadership and distinguished leaders in business including the Dean of UGBS, Prof. Joshua Yindenaba Abar and Dr. Godfred Bokpin, Head of the Finance. Business leaders were from leading international firms including KPMG, GCB Bank, Unilever and Vodafone. They had the honor of presenting several awards.
