Charles Bissue
Charles Bissue, a former Western Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), won the party’s parliamentary primaries in the Essikado-Ketan Constituency of the Western Region on Saturday, to become the party’s parliamentary candidate in the area for the 2024 general elections.
The former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), won the keenly contested internal election after garnering 333 votes out of 766 valid votes cast.
His contenders, Horma Akaisi Miezah and Giovanni Agyeman had 234 and 199 votes respectively.
When given the nod on December 7, 2024, Mr. Bissue will then replace Joe Ghartey as the next Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan.
Saturday’s parliamentary primaries at Essikado-Ketan which started at about 7.05 am, was largely a peaceful process with tight security.
Mr. Bissue commended the delegates for not giving up on him, adding, “I am grateful for the confidence you have reposed in me, and I promise to do my best to better the lots of the constituency in the coming years.”
Mr. Bissue promised to bring all on board and unite their frontiers for the bigger contest in the December 2024 elections.
“I pledge to court the support of all for victory, come December 7, 2024,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Andrews Egyapa Mercer, the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, was retained for the next general elections.
He polled 400 votes to beat Paa Kwesi Moses, who garnered 63 votes.
In the Kwesimintsim Constituency, the incumbent, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah was also retained. He polled 248 votes to beat his only contender, Dr. Mrs. Yaa Pokua Baiden, who had 160 votes.
