Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has come to the rescue of the Race Course Market in Kumasi regarding its poor infrastructure.
Madam Osei-Opare, a native of the Ashanti Region, donated 300 bags of cement, 15 trips of sand and also promised to pay the full cost to repairs in the market which easily becomes muddy after rains to boost business activities.
The gesture was in swift response to a passionate appeal made to her by the Race Course traders to help solve the perennial problems in the market.
Nana Afia Kyeiwaa, Queen mother of Race Course Market Traders, who received the donation praised the Chief of Staff, describing her as a ‘mother for all’.
According to her, there are several gaping holes around the market, which is usually filled with muddy water whenever it rains, thereby making it impossible for people to enter the market to buy from the traders.
Nana Afia Kyeiwaa bemoaned that this development was negatively affecting trading in the market so the traders made an appeal to the Chief of Staff ‘who, out of love and compassion, has swiftly come to our aid’.
She said with the Chief of Staff’s intervention, reports of earlier threats by some traders to boycott the 2024 general elections, would be reversed.
“The Chief of Staff has proven to us that indeed she has our businesses and welfare at heart”, she opined.
Identifiable Groups at Race Course and Central Market representative Elder Emmanuel Gyakie, described the NPP as a listening government, saying, “Dr. Bawumia also came to our aid when we appealed to him to construct a death-trapped bridge at Race Course.”
