Ghana’s fast-growing TV station, Citi TV, has been adjudged the tourism-oriented media organisation for 2019 [TV category] at the Eastern Regional Tourism Awards ceremony, which was held over the weekend.

This latest award is the third consecutive time that Citi News has been recognised and celebrated for its immense contribution in promoting domestic tourism by the management of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in the Eastern Region.

In 2017, Citi FM was adjudged the tourism-oriented media house for the radio category and citinewsroom.com in 2018 won the tourism-oriented media house (online) year 2018.

This year’s event, which was supposed to have been held in March, was postponed due to Covid-19, but after the easing of Covid-19 induced restrictions and the opening of international airspace, the event came off over the weekend at the Dodi Passengers Lounge in Akosombo under strict adherence to safety protocols.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Nuertey Ayertey, delivered a keynote address at the ceremony on behalf of the Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour.

He explained the key role the tourism industry plays in the economy of the country and called on players to strive for excellence.

“We know the important role the hospitality industry in the region plays with regard to the country’s economy, and we are proud to be recognised as a major tourism hub in the country, in view of this I want to congratulate you all for your continuous support to the economy and encourage you to attain excellence in all your activities,” Mr. Nuertey Ayertey stated.

The CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority reiterated the government’s resolve to help put the sector back on track and also commended Citi News’ management for its achievements in the tourism sector.

“The guys at Citi News are doing a lot. They are using innovative approaches in helping with the promotion of domestic tourism. We are already in a partnership with you guys, and we will continue to strengthen the existing partnership,” he said.
