The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has firmly rejected claims that it allocated GH¢12 million to support the Ghana national football team, describing the reports as entirely false.
In a statement addressing viral social media allegations linking cocoa funds to football sponsorship, the board said the claims were “false, misleading, and without any factual basis.”
COCOBOD stressed that its core mandate remains the development and sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector, with priority given to the welfare of cocoa farmers across the country.
According to the board, its resources are directed toward ensuring prompt payments to farmers, supplying essential farm inputs, expanding access to extension services, and investing in long-term growth within the industry. It categorically stated that no funds earmarked for farmer payments have been diverted to finance the senior national team.
The board also urged the public to treat unverified reports with caution and rely solely on its official communication platforms for credible and accurate information.
The clarification, COCOBOD noted, reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the interests of Ghana’s cocoa farmers and maintaining transparency in the management of industry resources.
