COCOBOD Suspends Cocoa Road Projects

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has directed the Ghana Highway Authority to suspend all works on roads in cocoa growing areas.

In a statement issued on Monday in Accra, the board indicated that the suspension of the projects was to review the rationalization of each of the project.

The brief statement, signed by COCOBOD Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Joseph Boahen Aidoo, highlighted: “This is to inform you that the Board of Directors of Ghana Cocoa Board had directive that work in connection with the above contracts be suspended with immediate effect.”

Some regions that could be affected by the directive include Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo and Western Regions.

COCOBOD appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority to alert all contractors working on projects under its supervision.

Information available to BUSINESS GUIDE indicates that contractors working on the cocoa roads were owed to the tune of GH¢4.5 billion.

Shockingly, no payment was made by the previous administration to the contractors, passing on the onerous task to the current administration.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is currently probing the previous Stephen Opuni-led administration, which is alleged to have supervised the massive corruption at the board.
