Collins Dauda
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi South in the Ahafo Region, Collins Dauda, has been arrested in connection with the violence that broke out at Kukuom during the ongoing Limited Voter Registration Exercise on Saturday.
The Ghana Police Service, in a statement, said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP was taken into custody following his arrest.
The statement indicated that one person sustained injury and was taken to a hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
“Police are in pursuit of other suspects in connection with the incident,” the statement added.
Public Caution
Earlier, the Ghana Police Service warned the public to exercise maximum restraint and act in accordance with the laws governing the registration process after being concerned about isolated incidences of law violations in some voter registration centres.
They condemned the violent incidents that occurred in some registration centres, including Cape Coast in the Central Region, Kukuom in the Ahafo Region and Adugyama in the Ashanti Region.
“Police have made a number of arrests as investigations continue. The Police would like to remind the public that the registration exercise is a civic responsibility that must be attended to in a civil manner,” the police said in a statement.
“Police will not tolerate any disregard of the law and any person(s) who engage in such acts shall be dealt with accordingly,” the statement warned.
Officers Interdicted
Meanwhile, the Service has revealed that three of its officers have been interdicted with immediate effect for failing to perform their duties professionally during the ongoing Limited Voter Registration Exercise.
The affected policemen are Inspector Michael Addo, G/Constable Eric Boakye and G/Constable Michael Gyan.
On May 11, 2024, the three allegedly failed to perform their duties as officers in charge of security at the Electoral Commission Office at Adugyama in the Ashanti Region, when some people attempted to disrupt the ongoing Limited Voter Registration Exercise.
The interdicted personnel will be taken through the due disciplinary process of the Service, the police said in a statement.
