Confusion Rocks WR NDC Over Defeat

Kofi Portuphy, NDC National Chairman

The confusion that has rocked the Western Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region after the party’s humiliating defeat in the December 7, 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections, seems to be deepening.

This follows the decision by the Regional Chairman of the party, Michael Aidoo also known as Big Aidoo to dissociate himself from a press conference organized by some of the NDC regional executives on Monday.

After losing eight of its parliamentary seats in the region to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC in the region has been bedeviled with blame games, finger pointing and infighting.

Some of the regional executives therefore, organized a press conference to among other things, try to implore some of their colleagues to halt the blame game.

The NDC regional executives also used the press conference to tell the people that there was over-voting in some constituencies, including Shama.

They indicated the party’s readiness to seek redress in court, after thorough investigation into the allegation.

Addressing the media, Japhet Baidoo, the Regional Organiser, claimed that in the Shama constituency where the NPP won, there was over-voting at some of the polling stations.

“We are investigating some results in some constituencies like Shama. We have identified some polling stations where there was over-voting,” Mr Baidoo indicated.

However, Michael Aidoo called into a discussion programme on Skyy Power FM in Takoradi and dissociated himself from the press conference, indicating that the entire regional executives of the NDC did not know anything about the progrmme.

According to him, the party’s Regional Secretary, Communication Officer and other executive members did not sanction the press conference.
