RESGSEC members declared parcel of land between Tuobodom and Techiman ‘no go area’
THE BRONG Ahafo Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has declared the parcel of land that has been the cause of tension between the people of Tuobodom and Techiman a ‘no go area’ for the two sides until a committee determines the correct boundaries between the two towns.
Nananom from both sides agreed to set up a joint committee comprising all stakeholders to determine the correct boundaries between the two towns and come out with resolutions to solve the age-old land dispute that often degenerates into clashes, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property. Before the committee finishes its work, no member of Nananon is allowed to work on the land, send land guards to protect the area or allow developers to continue to develop any part of the 200-acre land. Furthermore, all ongoing developmental activities in the area are supposed to cease with immediate effect.
The REGSEC in collaboration with the Techiman Municipal Security Council and Techiman North District Security Council will provide security in the area to make sure residents of both towns obey the roadmap. The committee has one month to submit its report.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE on the way forward, Chairman of the Brong Ahafo Regional Security Council and also the Regional Minister, Evans Opoku Bobiem, said the terms of reference for the committee is to determine the correct boundaries for both towns, discuss with Nananom and the district assemblies and relevant stakeholders to see where the problem is. Besides, the terms will ensure developers no longer develop the land; each side no longer sells fresh lands in the area and lastly makes sure no chief send lands guards to the area in the name of protecting the land.
The two chiefs, Tuafohene of Techiman Traditional Area, Nana Afena Nketia 11 and Nana Bafffour Asare 11 of Tuobodom Traditional Area endorsed the roadmap set up by REGSEG and promised to abide by it. They also promised to cease all hostilities towards each other.
It would be recalled that a 200-acre parcel of land known as Tanoanum has been the cause of hostilities between the people of Techiman and Tuobodom with each claiming ownership of it.
Efforts by both district security councils to solve the problem did not materialize hence the intervention of REGSEC under the leadership of the regional minister to broker truce and allow a committee to determine the correct boundaries of the two towns.
Addressing both chiefs, the regional minister Evans Opoku Bobie said soldiers would be sent to protect the land and any land guard found would be prosecuted. He asked the chiefs to comply with the directives of the council prior to the committee’s report. The chiefs were happy with the roadmap and promised it would find a lasting solution to the problem.
