Osei Assibey Antwi and other dignitaries on the dais
THE KUMASI Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is currently battling over 43 court cases with companies and individuals in the various law courts in Kumasi.
The assembly is also facing a whopping GH¢15 million judgment debt charge, which is having adverse effects on the scanty coffers of the KMA.
OseiAssibeyAntwi, the Kumasi Mayor, who assumed office a few weeks ago, lamented that “the court cases are becoming too much for the assembly to bear”.
According to him, inactions and actions of some staffers of the assembly were the major contributory factors to the numerous legal battles KMA is facing now.
The Kumasi Mayor therefore appealed to all staffers of the assembly to ensure due process when discharging duties on behalf of KMA to avert court cases.
He was speaking when a total of 460 Unit Committee Members from the various sub-metros in the Kumasi Metropolis were sworn into office on Tuesday.
His Lordship, Justice Abodakpi, supervised the swearing in ceremony, which took place at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).
MrOseiAssibey observed that wrongful seizure of toilet facilities and lands by KMA staffs contributed to the numerous legal battles.
He therefore urged the KMA staffs to be extra vigilant and circumspect so as to prevent the KMA from attracting additional court cases.
According to him, Kumasi roads are in bad condition now, which can only be repaired with money “so the court cases, which are capital intensive, ought to stop now”.
The Kumasi Mayor charged the Unit Committee members to stay united and support assemblymen in their various localities to ensure development.
The KMA Presiding Member (PM), Abraham Boadi, urged assemblymen to respect the unit committee members in their collaborations.
He said MrOseiAssibey is determined to develop Kumasi so staffers of the assembly should give him the full support to achieve his aim.
