A Justice of a Court of Appeal in Kumasi escaped an attempted robbery at his residence following a timely intervention by his police bodyguard who foiled the robbery.

The suspects, Patrick Alor (23) and Akwasi Gyamfi (21), allegedly scaled the fence wall of the judge’s residence wielding cutlasses and a pair of scissors.

The two are said to have attempted to forcibly open the judge’s private vehicle when they were spotted by the bodyguard on duty.

A statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo said the suspects attempted to disarm the bodyguard in the process of effecting their arrest.

“Acting in self-defense and in accordance with Police operational procedures, the bodyguard discharged his firearm, resulting in gunshot wounds to the left and right legs of the suspects respectively,” the statement said.

It further indicated that the injured suspects were immediately conveyed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi, where they are currently on admission and responding to treatment under police guard.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command commended the vigilance, professionalism, and bravery of the bodyguard, whose swift action prevented a potentially serious incident.

The Police Command also assured the public of its continued commitment to protecting members of the judiciary and all citizens, and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
