TEN PERSONS who were arrested for their alleged involvement in the bloody fight that happened at Bonsa, near Tarkwa in the Western Region have been remanded into police custody by the Tarkwa Magistrate Court ‘B’.
The ten, who were charged with murder, causing damage and possession of offensive weapons, will reappear before the court on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. Their pleas were not taken and the court presided over by His Lordship, Isaac Osei Asare, remanded the suspects.
DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command, disclosed the names of the ten as Ibrahim Mohammed, 30; Musah Arafat, 27; Awudu Tijani, 30; Ibrahim Musah, 29 and Mohammed Toffic, 29.
The rest included Abubakar Issahaku, 27; Ahmed Bawa, 26; Emmanuel Sarfo, 26; Godwin Andoh, 27 and Issah Adams, 26.
She continued that two out of some four other persons, also connected to the incident, namely Ransford Sarfo, 31, and Issah Adama, 30, sustained injuries and were receiving treatment at the Tarkwa Government Hospital. They were discharged and arrested to assist in investigations and would soon be put before court.
She added that Alhassan Issaka, 34, was still on admission at Tarkwa Government Hospital, while Awal Mohammed, 39, who was also injured, has been referred to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi for further medical attention.
On March 23, 2022, at about 4pm, the Tarkwa Police received information that some groups were fighting at the Bonsa tollbooth area. A team of police officers were dispatched to the scene.
The team took the injured persons to the hospital to seek medical attention and deposited the body of one Alhassan Ali, who died from the clash, at the Tarkwa Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The police found a Madza pick-up vehicle with registration number GN 401-19, with a broken windscreen. A search conducted on it found two foreign pistols, three used BB cartridges, three pairs of scissors and two jack knives.
A Toyota Corolla saloon car with registration number GN 8700-13 was also found abandoned at Wassa Agona on the Tarkwa-Agona-Nkwanta highway.
The vehicles were impounded as the items found were taken to assist the police in their investigations.
