Ghana’s highlife and afrobeat singer and songwriter, Dennis Nana Dwamena, aka KiDi, says the COVID-19 pandemic is a canker eating away the growth of many in the entertainment industry.
KiDi, who established himself as one of the fastest rising stars when he released ‘Odo’ in July 2017, said due to the virus, there are limitations in some jurisdictions on concerts and outdoor performances.
In an interview on Let’s Talk Showbiz with Dorren Avio, the ‘Spiritual’ hitmaker indicated that no matter how artistes have been able to perform at events and be with their fans, COVID-19 has destroyed a lot of opportunities.
“No matter how we look at it, it still limits us to do a number of things although outside is quite opened and we get to perform again, we get to travel but there are always certain things that are pulling you back, rules from other countries still going on and still a low point,” he said.
He, however, wished for things to be back to normal; where he could travel anywhere in the world; be at concerts or shoot music videos without restrictions.
Despite this setback, KiDi noted that in 2021 he had a good year, adding he was able to see the year end in good health.
“I still have life and I’m still strong and obviously, my works are speaking for themselves. They are doing amazing, taking global dominance, worldwide everyone is dancing to ‘Shut Up and Bend Over’ and as an artiste, it makes me happy,” he disclosed.
The award-winning artiste since signing on to Lynx Entertainment has released one album, an EP and a number of singles.
KiDi announced his presence in the Ghanaian music industry in July 2017 when he released his hit single titled ‘Odo’. He won the Highlife Song of the Year for his hit single ‘Odo’ at the 2018 Ghana Music Awards.
He again won the Male Vocalist of the Year at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) and Album of the Year for his maiden album, ‘Sugar’ at the 2020 VGMA.
KiDi has performed on music platforms alongside some of the celebrated artistes such as Sarkodie, Samini, Tiwa Savage, Shatta Wale, Wizkid, Patoranking among others.
He has also written for Ghanaian acts including the award-winning MzVee and Adina, and has collaborated with artistes such as TiC, Ko-Jo Cue, Magnom and Kwesi Arthur.
The musician, though lost out on the VGMA Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards, had hit songs like ‘Touch It’, ‘Mon Bebe’ and others from his Golden Boy album dominate the charts in Ghana and internationally.
