Members of the Select Committee visiting the area
THE RANKING member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy has appealed to Ghanaians to continue to donate to support the Apiate community.
John Abdulai Jinapor made the appeal after members of the committee visited the victims who were displaced following the explosion at Apiate on January 20, 2022, to commiserate with them.
Their first point of call was the Apiate community where the incident occurred, which is under reconstruction.
The committee members also visited a site which has some uncompleted buildings belonging to a mining company, which has been given to the assembly to be used as a temporal accommodation for the displaced persons.
The members also visited the place where the displaced persons are currently being accommodated in tents.
Mr. Jinapor said after the unfortunate incident, people donated all sorts of items to support the victims.
“But it seems of late people are not making donations. So I will plead with organisations and individuals to continue to support the victims in any way they can,” he stated.
Vice Chairman of the Select Committee, Elvis Morris Donkor, assured the people that government is determined to rebuild the community to give them a befitting accommodation.
The Prestea-Huni Valley Municipal Chief Executive, Dr. Isaac Dasmani, told the committee members that the assembly had assured that there are health personnel around to take care of medical needs.
“We have also ensured that buses are available to send the children to and from nearby schools,” he revealed.
He disclosed that the greatest challenge has been that when it rains the water enter the tent and make the people uncomfortable.
A few minutes after the committee members had left, there was a heavy downpour which flooded the area, destroying some belongings of the people.
