Daddy Lumba Memorial Event’s Injunction Hearing Adjourned To April

The Accra High Court has postponed proceedings in a legal challenge seeking to stop a planned memorial event for the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

The case, which was heard yesterday before Justice Halimah El-Alawa Abdul Baasit, has been adjourned to April 23, 2026, to allow the court additional time to examine the legal and customary issues surrounding the dispute.

The application for an injunction was brought by Kofi Owusu, seeking a court order to prevent the two-day memorial service from taking place.

The event, titled “Celebration of the Life of Daddy Lumba,” is scheduled for March 28 and 29 in Accra.

Speaking to journalists after the hearing, counsel for the respondents, Stephen Nsia Opoku, reportedly explained that the adjournment would enable the court to carefully assess both statutory provisions and relevant customary practices before making a determination.

He further indicated that the presiding judge had noted the possibility of awarding compensation to the respondents should the application be deemed unmeritorious.

The planned memorial is expected to draw close relatives of the late musician, including his sister, Ernestina Fosuh, and his first wife, Akosua Serwaa Fosuh.
