THE NATIONAL Daily minimum wage (NDMW) has been increased by 6 per cent from last year’s amount of GH¢11.82.
The National Tripartite Committee (NTC), which made this known in a communiqué, said it also concluded negotiations on the 2022 wage and pegged it at GH¢13.53, representing an 8 per cent upgrade over this year’s.
It said the negotiations which was in line with Section 113 (1) (a) of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), was concluded on Thursday, June 3, 2021.
The National Tripartite Committee communique added that the implementation of the 2021 national daily minimum wage was June 4, this year while the effective date for the implementation of the 2022 NDMW would be January 1, 2022.
According to the NTC, in determining the new rates, it took into account the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the national economy, the cost of living, sustainability of businesses as well as the desirability of attaining high level employment.
It said all establishments, institutions and organisations whose daily minimum wage fell below the 2021 wage should adjust their wages accordingly with effect from June 4.
Additionally, it warned that “Any establishment, institution or organisation that flouts the new rate shall be sanctioned in accordance with the law” while also it emphasised that “The NTC recommends that the NDMW should be tax-exempt.”
