Danish Queen At Akwamufie

The Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III – Akwamumanhene exchanging pleasantries with Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark at the Bogyawe Palace, Akwamufie

THE Queen of Denmark, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark visited Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, the Akwamuhene, in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region over the weekend during her recent visit to the country.

The visitor was accompanied during the visit by Ms Catherine Afeku, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts, Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour, the Eastern Regional Minister, and Mr Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, amidst drumming and singing of traditional songs.

There is a long standing history between the Danes and the Akwamus which an elder of the palace narrated during the visit. The elder recalled the conflicts between the Danes and the Akwamus against the backdrop of the Christiansborg Caste now Osu Castle which was built by the Danes in the 17th Century.
