Joseph Owusu and others planting a tree
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Sekyere Afram Plains in the Ashanti Region, Joseph Owusu, has started a campaign to help promote the planting of trees in the area.
According to him, the depletion of the forest cover would create problems for the people, saying, “I have dedicated my time to make sure that the environment looks green.”
He, therefore, sternly cautioned residents in the district and Ghana in general to desist from the rampant felling of trees since that weird behaviour would create problems for the country.
Mr Owusu, aka ‘Odenkyem’ disclosed this when ADA Heart, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), led by Ama Dankwah Antwi, embarked on a tree planting exercise at Drobonso on Tuesday.
The ‘Forest Week and Greening Ghana Day’ was officially marked in the country at Wonoo, and the NGO used the occasion to plant trees at Drobonso to create awareness.
Mr. Owusu stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, led by President Akufo-Addo, is committed to protecting the environment to improve the lives of Ghanaians.
“Planting trees to beautify the environment would reduce air pollution and prevent natural disasters, among others.”
Ama Dankwah Antwi, on her part, stated that her outfit decided to embark on the tree planting exercise to support efforts to tackle climate change which has negative impact on the world.
