The Ketu South Municipality’s response to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak received a boost at the weekend as the De Colours Foundation (DCF) donated food stuff and personal protective equipment (PPE) to 300 vulnerable people in the area including persons with disabilities.
The items included bags of rice, bags of beans and gari, condiments, masks, sanitizers, soaps, customized buckets for hand washing and Bibles.
The relief initiative formed part of actions by the foundation to support efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 and it was also meant to help the beneficiaries to cope with the ‘new normal’ life.
The President of DCF, Pastor Donatus Okocha, said the foundation considered the donations as a service to humanity as directed by God.
According to him, “the greatest and pure religious practice is to care for the needy and give hope to the vulnerable in society.”
He explained that the foundation included Bibles in the distribution exercise because “the scripture is also food for the human soul and spirit.”
“Nurturing the body without the soul is meaningless, as man shall not live by bread alone but by the word of God which is in the Bible. Studying God’s word will boost your spiritual immunity which will have expression on our soul, spirit and body,” he added.
Pastor Okocha asked the beneficiaries to read the Bible in order to find hope, joy, peace of mind and divine healing for their sickness, including the Covid-19.
The Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Elliot Edem Agbenorwu, expressed gratitude to the Colours Foundation for the kind gesture.
According to him, the De Colours Foundation is the only humanitarian organization that has shown compassion for the vulnerable in the municipality in this difficult period and called on others to emulate the gesture.
The Chairman of Ghana Federation of Disability Organization (GFDO), Christian Dzisam, also praised the foundation for the support.
He called on government to follow on the donation made by the foundation to enable more to benefit from such largess.
