Delta Air Lines, Breast Care Int’l Partner For ‘Walk For The Cure’

Delta Air Lines, headline sponsor for the eighth consecutive year, has partnered with Breast Care International (BCI) for the 12th annual “Walk for the Cure” in Ejisu, Ashanti Region, as part of efforts to dispel myths about breast cancer and promote awareness around the critical importance of early detection and treatment.

The “Walk for the Cure” has become an essential platform for advancing breast cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment in Ghana and across Africa.

This year’s event, themed “Together We Can Change the Narrative About Cancers in Africa,” saw the participation of thousands of survivors, healthcare professionals, and advocates, all united in the fight against breast cancer.

Ahead of the walk, Delta Air Lines reinforced its dedication to the cause by joining BCI’s fundraising event in Accra for the construction of the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Excellence.

In addition, Delta was present at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Comprehensive Cancer Centre of Excellence at Kwaso near Ejisu, further demonstrating the airline’s long-term commitment to advancing cancer care in Ghana.

Director of Global Communications at Delta Air Lines, Ralph Albus, emphasized the airline’s dedication to the communities it serves, saying, “At Delta, our eight-year partnership with BCI underscores our deep connection to this cause. We are proud to join BCI in raising awareness about breast cancer and promoting the life-saving importance of early detection. Together, we aim to reshape the conversation around cancer in Africa and inspire others to support this vital mission.”

Founder and President of Breast Care International and CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals, Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, highlighted the urgent need for action to address rising breast cancer cases in Ghana. She expressed appreciation to Delta Air Lines for their continued support, noting, “The country is facing a concerning increase in breast cancer-related deaths. Before 2020, we saw 1,800 deaths out of 4,000 cases each year. Unfortunately, this number has now risen to 2,396 deaths out of 5,000 cases annually since 2020. We are grateful to Delta for being a steadfast headline sponsor of this worthy cause, helping us raise awareness and promote early detection and treatment.”

Delta’s participation in the “Walk for the Cure” reflects its dedication to corporate social responsibility and ongoing support for health initiatives across Africa.
