Dr. Ziblim Iddi
Information available to DGN Online indicates that the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dr. Ziblim Iddi has pulled out of the Gushegu constituency primaries of the NPP.
Mr Iddi is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Gushegu.
But DGN Online has sighted his purported withdrawal letter addressed to the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu.
The letter is dated June 4, 2020. In it, he said “I write to formally inform your good office that I do not intend to contest as a candidate in the parliamentary primaries scheduled to take place on the 20th of June, 2020 in the Gushegu Constituency.”
He says “I arrived at this painful decision after a very broad consultation and deep introspection”.
Sources say he is unsure of winning the primaries, hence his decision to step aside to avert a possible political embarrassment.
One source says Mr Iddi had relished the idea of going unopposed.
“They clandestinely disqualified his contender which was over ruled by the appeals committee of the party and cleared the way for the contest. That provoked him to withdraw from the contest,” a source said.
