Selected contestants at the end of auditions for the third edition of the plus-sized dance reality show, Di Asa, have been unveiled to the public at an induction ceremony held in Accra.
The 30 contestant were chosen after undergoing a rigorous selection process that involved medical examinations and 36 auditioning sessions held across 16 regions of the country, with the aim of finding the next plus-sized dance queen in the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of Atinka Media Village, organisers of the event, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, announced that the first two editions of the show would be eviction-free, so as to help the contestants settle well into the competition.
“Aside from the physical activities that will ensure that our queens lose weight, we have also secured the service of a dietitian who would ensure that our ladies eat proper food to promote healthy living,” he said.
Mr. Dwumfour also revealed that the public can vote for their favourite contestants through web portals, USSD, mobile app and SMS.
In attendance to the ceremony was the Minister of Gender, Child & Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison, who commended the organisers for the initiative that has given plus-sized women the platform to build their confidence and to break the stigma associated with being ‘obolo’.
She advised contestants to discipline themselves as they focus on winning the competition while adopting a healthy lifestyle.
The first three winners of this year’s competition are to enjoy a sponsored trip to Dubai in addition to other packages from sponsors.
The ultimate winner of the 12 weeks competition will take home a brand new saloon car, with the first runner-up receiving a pick-up truck while the second runner-up takes away a tricycle.
