DJ Sly
This year’s Ghana DJ Awards presents the tightest list yet in the coveted DJ of the Year with DJ Vyrusky, DJ Faculty, DJ Sly, DJ Mic Smith, DJ MJ and DJ Aroma nominated for the top award.
The awards ceremony slated for tomorrow at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) will bring together the best of Ghana and international disc jockeys (DJs) to celebrate the event with music fans.
As expected, the category of DJ of the Year is what has been generating the most anxiety over the years and this year’s list was no exception as it is being competed by some of Ghana’s finest DJs.
Higher expectations await the event tomorrow, as people are wondering who will win which award and which DJs will dominate the awards ceremony aimed at promoting and rewarding the best achieving Ghanaian radio, nightclub and “recognised” mobile disk jockeys (DJ).
The most anticipated categories include DJ of the Year, Event DJ of the Year, Male Radio DJ of the Year and Discovery of the Year, which have often made the headlines in the past. There is very tight competition in each of these categories.
Interestingly, this year’s nomination list for the category of Discovery of the Year is equally intriguing and likely to be one of the fiercest.
It has DJ Kola, DJ Shila, DJ Phonzy, DJ EL Black, DJ Phinaj, DJ Dr Samari, DJ Scanner, DJ Dials and DJ Guru as the contestants.
The awards scheme since its inception has won the hearts of stakeholders in the showbiz industry in Ghana and beyond.
The Chief Executive Officer of Merqury Republic Events, Merqury Quaye, founder of the Ghana DJ Awards, has promised the stakeholders in the creative arts industry and Ghanaian music fans that this year’s edition of the awards ceremony will be historic and different from last year’s.
According to him, this year, the Ghana DJ Awards which has come to stay has been designed to bring more excitement to the DJ profession nationwide.
Regardless of the many times the award scheme has been criticised by those who do not understand the concept of the scheme, it continues to reign as one of the most recognised awards schemes on the continent.
The event, which is in its 9th edition, will witness live stage performances from celebrated DJs such as DJ Virusky, DJ Mac Tontoh, and DJ Andy Dosty among others.
In a related development, a number of DJs in separate interviews with BEATWAVES were delighted about the awards scheme, since such awards always encourage players to put in more effort to be the best at what they do.
They noted that they were happy to see companies investing in the awards scheme to promote the music industry in Ghana to the outside world.
Ghana DJ Awards 2021 is brought to you by Merqury Republic and sponsored by Predator Energy Drink, Rhythmz Africa, Guinness, Tigon Creative Studios, LetsGo, Itel, and Virtual Sound Lab.
