DKM Customers Challenge Finance Minister

Some aggrieved customers of the defunct DKM Company in Bolgatanga have refuted claims by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta that the monies of about 90 percent of customers had been paid.

“We appealed to the President to intervene to enable us retrieve our investments about year ago, but nothing was heard from government only to hear the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta say customers of the defunct DKM Company have been paid.

“We have not been paid. Your Excellency, we expressed our concerns to you for your intervention but for more than one year, we have not seen any positive action that your government has taken or intends to take to address the concerns of the suffering citizens who lost huge amounts of money due to the negligence of the Bank of Ghana.”

“Your Excellency…we are reminding you that the situation of these customers of DKM has not changed. Some customers are still dying, committing suicide, DKM customers are still in prisons simply because they could not pay back monies they borrowed from individuals, companies, businesses, banks etc,” a statement released by the group said.

They therefore pleaded with the government to fulfill its campaign promise to pay at least the initial deposits of customers to lessen their plight.

“Your Excellency you will recall that customers of DKM Company, Bolgatanga Branch, petitioned you after the Liquidator held a meeting with customers of DKM at the Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga on 15th September 2017 to announce the arrangements put in place to pay customers whose investments exceeded GH¢10,000.00. For those with investments between GH¢10,000.00 and GH¢30,000.00 they had 10 percent of the monies paid by the Liquidator. For those between GH¢30,000.00 and GH¢60,000.00 they had 15 percent paid. Between GH¢60,000.00 and GH¢100,000.00, they had 20 percent of their investments paid. Between GH¢100,000.00 and GH¢300,000.00 they had 25 percent paid. Between GH¢300,000.00 and GH¢600,000.00 they had 30 percent of their investments paid and for those with investments above GH¢600,000.00 they had 35 percent of their investments paid. Where then is the payment done as alleged by the Finance Minister?” the statement added.

They called on the President to encourage the Finance Minister to check the records again or engage customers to assess the situation.

“Customers of DKM would have no option than to take action to register our displeasure just we did when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was in power.”
