Doctor Donates To Mayera Health Centre

A private hospital start-up consultant, Dr Joseph Kofi Gyanteh, has made a donation to the Mayera Faase Health Centre at Pokuase in Accra.

The donation included items such as a set of stethoscope, infusion stands, suturing, dressing kit and weighing scales.

The donation which was made on his birthday follows an appeal by Head of Quality Assurance with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Vivian Addo Cobbiah, who visited the facility for treatment and was impressed by the service rendered by staff of the facility in spite of the lack of adequate logistics.

The Mayera Faase Health Centre, although serves about 15,000 residents in the Mayera and surrounding communities, has only seven beds, with two rooms converted into wards.

Apart from that, the Mayera Faase Health Centre has only one consulting room, a dispensary which is also shared with the accountant.

It has no records room and stores its records in a cupboard outside on a desk at the out-patient department (OPD), aside not having a treatment room to administer injections and dressing of sores and has two verandas partitioned to serve as treatment rooms.

With staff strength of about 32 people, the facility lacks accommodation and houses only two out of the number — being the in-charge midwife and the in-charge physician assistant respectively — who share a house with rooms situated on the compound of the facility.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the facility, Mrs Felicia Koranteng, a senior midwifery officer at the centre and Kofi Adjei-Nti, a senior physician assistant, thanked Dr Gyanteh for his kind gesture.

Mr Adjei-Ntim indicated that though the facility needs renovation to improve and expand its infrastructure, in the interim, mattresses are needed to provide some comfort for patients who have to sleep on hard wooden benches and a minivan which would be converted into an ambulance during emergency cases.
