The feud between the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has stirred president of Bechem United-Kingsley Owusu-Achau to react.
To the Bechem boss, the friction if not checked has the tendency to soil the nation’s football, a sport he described as Ghana’s brand just like athletics is associated with Jamaica.
He has therefore called on the two powerhouses to ceasefire before soccer which has placed Ghana on the international map, suffers.
Speaking in a telephone interview yesterday, he said “We should be careful we don’t destroy that which has earned our country some goodwill.”
“Soccer is our brand just like when you mention Germany, the first thing that comes to mind is Mercedes Benz and athletics to Jamaica, ours is football.”
“Nyantakyi will not be president of our football forever, neither will Nii Lantey Vanderpuye be the Sports Minister forever. It means that we should be tactful in handling the perceived fight between the two bodies, else football will be the loser.”
The two factions- Youth and Sports Ministry and the GFA have in recent months received bad press.
The Sports Minister since taking over from Dr Mustapha Ahmed has constantly questioned the FA’s modus operandi on various media platforms.
In like manner, the country’s football governing body has equally responded to the Minister using the same platforms.
