Don’t Relax In Russia …Appiah Tells African Reps.

Kwesi Appiah

Ghana coach, Kwesi Appiah says it is high time Africa’s representatives in the forthcoming World Cup finished among the last four countries.

Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal and Tunisia make up countries representing the continent in next summer’s Russia football festival.

To coach Appiah, it will take extra effort from the Africans to make the historic semi final berth dream a reality.

“I think it is about time one African country makes it to the semi-finals of the World Cup. We should not go there just to participate.

“African countries should believe that now is the time to make a great mark,” he said on Metro TV.

Coach Appiah added “The teams are strong but they need to prepare adequately. They should not think of relaxing after qualifying.”

So far, it is Senegal (2002), Ghana (2010) and Cameroon; the only African countries that have reached quarter final of the competition.

Thirty two countries will battle for supremacy in Russia in June next year. It will be Ghana’s first time in missing in action since 2006, having made three streak appearances in Germany, South Africa and Brazil.
