Duffour Hits Ground Running With ‘NDC Ahot) Project’

Presidential hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kwabena Duffuor is expanding his tentacles within the grassroots of the party with a new project to generate revenue for the supporters across the country in line with his contribution towards party reorganization and restructuring.

The initiative dubbed “NDC Ahotɔ Project” – a micro business initiative aimed at creating a sustainable revenue base for all 275 constituencies of the NDC is scheduled to be launched soon.

The pilot phase of the NDC Ahotɔ project will be launched at the Ashaiman Constituency in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday April 7, 2022.

Giving details about the project, Dr. Duffuor shared on his Facebook timeline that “For the capacity of our local constituencies to be fully realized, they would need access to and control over a constant source of revenue. With the NDC Ahotɔ Project, constituency leadership will run rental services for social events and invest proceeds into local party activities.

“This initiative includes the provision of plastic chairs, canopies and public address systems, to each constituency. I am hopeful that this would advance activities of our local parties as a stable revenue generating venture.”

The former Finance Minister had made his intention known to contest for the National Democratic Congress’ Flagbearership race ahead of the election 2024.

There have been rumours about some senior members of the NDC lacing their boots to contest the flagbearer slot.

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has been seen in a viral video soliciting support for the party ahead of the 2024 elections.

Asked whether he had thoroughly considered contesting in the race when he appeared on Citi TV’s Point of View, Dr. Duffuor responded in the affirmative, saying “yes”.

He however denied that some individuals or groups were mounting pressure on him to contest.

Justifying the motivation behind his viral video, Dr. Duffuor said it was aimed at sensitising members of the party.

“It is a big political party and like all political parties you have to sensitize the members and let them understand where we are going so that video was aimed at encouraging them to come together to build a formidable party.”

Dr. Duffuor is likely to face stiff competition from former President John Mahama, former Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu should he carry on with his decision to contest.

However, some bigwigs in the party believe John Mahama is the NDC’s best bet at winning the next elections.
