PRESIDENT Akufo-Addo has been honoured with the “Eastern Star Award’’ which is the highest award. Besides, he has been enstooled as the ‘Mputuhene’ (Development Chief) by the people of the Eastern Region.
The Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfuor, received the award on behalf of the President at the maiden “Eastern Star Awards” event in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital.
The event is aimed at recognising individuals who hail from the region and have over the years contributed extensively to its development in all aspects.
It was organized by the 11 paramountcies that constitute the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs to honour sons and daughters of the region who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavour.
Former Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Paul Asare Ansah, also won the prestigious ‘J. B. Danquah Eastern Corporate Leadership Personality 2018 Award’.
Mr. Paul Ansah’s nomination out of the 22 public sector CEOs from the Eastern Region was based on his exceptional performance and the exemplary leadership and integrity he exhibited when he was the Director General of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.
Mr Alexander Akwasi Acquah, Chief Executive of the Community Hospitals Group and Maks Publications and Media Services, received the prestigious ‘Osagyefo’ award.
Veteran musician, Nana Ampadu, was also honoured on the night for his gross contribution to Ghana’s entertainment industry.
In all, about 23 indigenes of the region were honoured for their contribution to development in the fields of health, environment, agriculture and media, among others.
Key influential winners included the Chief of Staff Frema Opare; Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo; Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta; Julius Debrah, former Chief of Staff in the Mahama administration; and the late Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary-General.
The rest were Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addae of Peace and Love Hospital; Barima Kofi Adjei Twinin II; Nana Dr. Addo Agyekum; Mr. K Agyare Danquah; Dr. Edward Narh; Dr. Dinah Obiri Galayini; John Appiah Biney; Mr. Daniel Sarfo, among others.
