EC Registers 522,025 Voters Ahead Of 2024 Elections

 

At a press conference held on Tuesday, the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has reported a total of 522,025 registered voters as of Sunday, May 19, 2023.

The commission provided a detailed breakdown of the voter distribution across various regions in the country.

According to Samuel Tetteh, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations at the EC, the Greater Accra region recorded the second highest number of registered voters, with 74,420 individuals, representing 14.3% of the total. The Ashanti region tops with 90,480 registered voters, making up 17.3% of the nationwide figure.

The North East and Savannah regions had the lowest number of registered voters, with 14,147 individuals, accounting for 2.7% of the total for North East with Savannah grabbing 2.4%.
Other regions and their respective voter registrations are as follows: North East (14,147 – 2.7%), Upper East (20,135 – 3.9%), Northern (47,948 – 9.2%), Bono (20,886 – 4%), Bono East (18,861 – 3.6%), Volta (26,486 – 5.1%), Upper West (15,652 – 3.0%), Eastern (48,563 – 9.3%), Central (56,141 – 10.8%), Ahafo (10,861 – 2.1%), Western North (16,225 – 3.1%), Oti (14,844 – 2.8%), Savannah (12,767 – 2.4%), and Western (33,609 – 6.4%).

In terms of gender distribution, Tetteh stated that out of the total registered voters, 246,455 were male (47.21%), and 275,570 were female (52.79%).

The EC’s announcement of these voter registration figures comes as the country gears up for the upcoming elections, underscoring the importance of an informed and engaged electorate.
