The Managing Director of ECG exchanging pleasantries with Nene Sakite II
STAFF OF the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have brokered peace with the people of Somanya and its environs in the Yilo Krobo District of the Eastern Region.
Sometime ago, the residents were reported to have attacked the ECG for allegedly overbilling them.
The management of ECG assured the people that a full-scale investigation would be instituted into the alleged error billing.
Recently, the ECG customers at Somanya and its environs protested against what they termed overbilling by the ECG.
The protest led to a clash between the residents and the police, compelling staff of the ECG to vacate their posts.
But in a stakeholders’ meeting at Somanya, the two parties agreed to iron out their differences with the ECG management promising to intensify education on its operations.
Aggrieved customers of the area were urged to remain calm and allow staff of the company to go about their normal business for quality service delivery.
Ing. Samuel Kweku Boagye-Appiah, Managing Director of ECG, advised the aggrieved residents to remain calm for his outfit to address their concerns.
He claimed that staff of ECG in the area felt unsecure amidst threats on their lives by some members of the community.
Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Krobo, on behalf of the queen mothers and elders of the paramount stool, condemned the hooliganism by the youth of the area.
He advised his community members to use legitimate means in sending their grievances to the appropriate quarters to be resolved since vandalism does not resolve problems.
The paramount chief assured ECG that the case is an isolated one which will not be repeated, and asked the various assembly members in the area to ensure that the matter is resolved.
Some of the members of the community seized the opportunity to ask various questions and express their worries.
Workers of the ECG also assured the people of quality service delivery.
