D-Black
Ghanaian rapper and Black Avenue Muzik founder, D-Black has joined the chorus of voices lamenting the rising cost of living in the country.
Posting on X, he wrote in pidgin, “Town make hard oo, Or ebe me? Chale.” The comment quickly sparked a debate about whether celebrities truly understand the everyday struggles of ordinary Ghanaians.
Some social media users accused the rapper of being a ‘dbee,’ a term for children raised in wealth. But D-Black dismissed the claim, revealing that his father died when he was 12, leaving his mother to single-handedly raise him and his siblings.
“Our survival was by my mum’s hard work and God’s grace,” he explained. “People shouldn’t judge where I come from based on what they see now.”
D-Black stressed that his success as a musician and entrepreneur is rooted in resilience and sacrifice, not privilege.
In October 2024, he also made headlines after calling for the dissolution of MUSIGA, GHAMRO, and COSGA if he were ever appointed Tourism Minister, arguing that the institutions had failed to serve musicians effectively.
