Ejisu MP Rallies NPP Behind Dr. Bawumia

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu, Kwabena Boateng, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to put aside internal divisions and unite behind the party’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, following the party’s recent flagbearer primaries.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Mr. Boateng, who was a known campaigner for the former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, during the internal contest, stressed that the time for competition had ended and that the party must now focus on recapturing political power in the 2028 general election.

He described the outcome of the primaries as a clear mandate from party delegates and called on supporters of all aspirants to rally behind Dr. Bawumia to strengthen the party’s chances in the next national polls.

“The verdict delivered by NPP members sends a clear message that we must now market Dr. Bawumia and work collectively to ensure the party returns to power in 2028,” Mr. Boateng stated.

The Ejisu legislator also announced plans to spearhead reconciliation and mobilisation efforts across his constituency to consolidate party unity at the grassroots level.

He said the initiative would involve extensive tours of electoral areas and polling stations within Ejisu to engage party supporters and address concerns arising from the primaries.

According to him, a key component of the exercise would be outreach to supporters of Mr. Agyapong and other candidates, with the aim of healing divisions and fostering a united front.

He added that grassroots advocacy would also form part of the strategy, including direct engagement with voters in markets, community gatherings, and through local media platforms.

“While many members had different preferences during the primaries, the majority has spoken. It is now incumbent on every party member to support Dr. Bawumia’s leadership,” he emphasised.

Mr. Boateng pledged what he described as “total and unflinching” support for the NPP flagbearer, stressing that the party cannot afford complacency as it prepares for the 2028 elections.

He said party members must actively promote Dr. Bawumia’s vision and policies to win the confidence of Ghanaians.

“Our responsibility is to make Dr. Bawumia and the NPP brand the preferred choice for the Ghanaian people. We will take our message to every corner of the country, from radio platforms to community centres and local eateries, to ensure our message resonates with the electorate,” he added.

Results from the NPP flagbearer election in the Ejisu constituency showed a closely contested race, with Dr. Bawumia securing 477 votes, representing 46.40 per cent. Mr. Kennedy Agyapong followed closely with 464 votes, representing 45.14 percent.

Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, obtained 79 votes, representing 7.68 per cent, while Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, secured six votes, representing 0.58 percent. Former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, garnered two votes, representing 0.19 percent.
