The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) in the Western Region is making frantic efforts to ensure the improvement of the safety and general wellbeing of the residents during the yuletide.
Among the various measures being put in place to ensure the safety of the citizens include the intensification of police and military patrols.
The assembly is also ensuring the fixing, repairing, and maintenance of streetlights in the area to improve visibility at night.
There will also be sensitization of community members and market women on fire emergencies and safety measures.
The assembly will also monitor and enforce all the safety protocols against the Covid-19 pandemic at various Christmas functions within the municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Kojo Acquah disclosed this at the 4th Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the EKMA.
He appealed to all motorists and other road users to be careful on the road to help reduce road accidents to the barest minimum during the festivities.
“The Kwesimintsim and Effia Police Force have reiterated their determination to enforce the road traffic laws and regulations towards preventing road accidents during the season”.
“Let us help them in this endeavor by minimizing our speed, taking due precaution for other road users, driving without the influence of alcohol, and wearing our seat belts”, he indicated.
He said the vacation against Covid-19 is still ongoing in various communities within the municipality for both first and second doses.
He indicated that in addition to other vaccines, the municipality received Pfizer Vaccine which has been recommended by the Food and Drugs Authority to be administered to people who are 15 years and above.
The MCE revealed that a total of 46,352 people had been vaccinated with their first dose and 14,401 fully vaccinated as at December 13, 2021.
“As the Christmas festivities approach, I will entreat all assembly members and Heads of decentralized Departments to encourage the public to get vaccinated and comply with all the safety protocols”, he noted.
He told the assembly members that the total budgeted revenue for the year was GHc29,851,970.04 and that out of the amount, GHc18,729,221,.32 was realized as at November 30, 2021, representing 62.74 percent.
He also disclosed that the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) collected during the period under review was GHc2,402,496.09.
“The amount represented 81.82 percent collection rate of IGF revenue projection of GHc2,936,350.00”, he added.
