The suspect
A man believed to be in his early forties has been arrested at the La District Court in Accra for allegedly posing as a legal practitioner.
The smartly-dressed man, identified as Nene Aggudey, had gone to the court to represent a client in a motor accident case, but luck ran out for him.
DAILY GUIDE learnt that the police and the court’s staff had been monitoring activities of the ‘lawyer’ for some time and therefore when he arrived at the (court) premises, they invited him to the Registrar’s office and started questioning him.
He could not provide any information as to whether or not he is a certified lawyer and was immediately handcuffed by the police and brought to the courtroom where the judge was hearing cases.
The judge then said that the suspect was not ‘properly’ charged before her and asked the police to send him to the office for further investigation.
Later, Prince Gbadago, a ‘client’ of the suspect who appeared shell shocked, claimed that he got to know the ‘lawyer’ through a friend in March last year and said he had been representing him in court.
He said in the instant case, he had paid GH¢3,000 to the ‘lawyer’ who he said, is also a pastor with a church called Star International Ministries.
He also mentioned that the ‘lawyer’ runs a chamber called Zo.Hunters at the church’s premises at Nungua SDA Park area in Accra.
When DAILY GUIDE contacted the Labadi police station officer in-charge said no such case had been reported to them.
